Overview:
A new surgical drape support (SDS) is now on sale from W.S Rothband & Co. Limited. The SDS keeps surgical drapes off a patient’s face during procedures such as central line placement and was designed and tested by Dr Stephen D’Souza and his team at Royal Preston Hospital.
Problem:
The support reduces the feeling of claustrophobia and allows uninterrupted observation of the patient.
Solution:
The support simply slips under the mattress by the patient’s head and is easy to clean. By simple rotation, the support can be used for both right and left sided line placement.
Technical Information:
The SDS is suitable for use anywhere in a hospital where central venous access is being performed. The SDS is a simple, lightweight, radiolucent device that is easy to clean.
