Overview
Many people suffer from persistent or chronic pain lasting for more than three to six months.
It normally occurs after an injury, when the healing process has normally finished or as part of a long-term painful condition. It can have a significant impact on quality of life, limiting activities and confidence over time, especially if the level of pain increases. When medication and rest alone do not resolve the pain, there is a need to learn to manage the pain by other means.
The Managing Persistent Pain booklet and audio CD form a self help guide designed to overcome the impact of chronic pain in the lives of patients and help create a sense of control over their situation. It has been produced in collaboration with the Community Pain Management Team at University Hospital of North Durham and patient groups. This approach to pain management can help to make radical improvements to a patient's quality of life.
The booklet can be used by an individual but it is also designed as a reference work to those who work with people with chronic pain.
