Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is often perceived by those who suffer from it as a 'Cinderella' condition for which there is as yet no cure, with inadequate medical and therapeutic input to alleviate its physical and psychological effects. Few people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) feel that their needs or point of view receive sufficient attention from clinicians.
Karen Hitchlock's 'Face to Face' project reveals the people and personalities behind the statistics brilliantly. These are more than volunteers, MS sufferers or patients. They are people who on a day to day basis are striving to manage their condition rather than letting it manage them.
Through the media of photography and narrative, ‘Face to Face' gives people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) an opportunity to express their own unique experience of living with MS and being a participant in a research trial.
The ‘Face to Face' book aims to give people with Multiple Sclerosis an opportunity to raise issues that are important to them, to find common ground and a mutual understanding of the impact of Multiple Sclerosis on their lives, the limitations, disabilities and effect on relationships, work, hopes and aspirations.
